“I expect to pass through this world but once; if, therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing that I can do to any human being, let me do it now; let me not defer, nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”Stephen Grellet (1773 – 1855)
How do you FEEL when you SEE the POOR live in subhuman conditions like slums? How do you FEEL when you SEE the wayward STREET CHILDREN who are so vulnerable? How do you FEEL when you SEE the HOMELESS BEGGARS on the streets? How do you FEEL when you SEE the ILLITERATE so ignorant? How do you FEEL when you SEE the PHYSICALLY and the INTELLECTUALLY CHALLENGED PERSONS go about their daily life?
Therefore, MAANIDAM POONGA feels the need to TEACH the ILLITERATE, to ENLIGHTEN the IGNORANT, to FEED the HUNGRY, to PROVIDE for the DEPRIVED, to SHELTER the HOMELESS, to EMBRACE the REJECTED and the NEGLECTED, and to REVIVE the BROKENHEARTED.
The organization wishes to envisage a ‘MAANIDAM’ as a ‘POONGA’ or ‘HUMANITY’ as a ‘GARDEN’ where we behold each other as brothers and sisters. It is a force that hopes to drive human beings with a genuine attitude of universal consciousness with a goodwill to unite in mind and heart, in solidarity with one another especially with the poor and the suffering so as to create and sustain a larger family of brothers and sisters for a life of a higher calling, true dignity, lasting peace, pure joy and greater harmony.
MAANIDAM POONGA does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of creed, colour, region, language or race. It labours towards establishing a NEW WORLD CONSCIOUSNESS (NWC) through noble intentions and actions that appeal to the minds that seek the truth, hearts that yearn for purity and wills that pave the right way.
The name of the Trust which is in Tamil when translated literally into English should read as ‘Garden of Humanity’.
