Hunger for Humanity

Hunger for Humanity

The current world population is 7.6 billion as of April 2018 according to the most recent United Nations estimates. The globe’s richest 1% own half the world’s wealth, according to a study highlighting the growing gap between the super-rich and everyone else. Nearly 1/2 of the world’s population — more than 3 billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day. More than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty — less than $1.25 a day. 1 billion children worldwide are living in poverty. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. This tells it all.

So we wonder whether HUMANITY does exist among us! Those who believe in love and care, justice and equity, and fraternity and peace are doing their bit to make humanity come alive in our midst. MAANIDAM POONGA’s effort in that direction is all but a drop in the ocean. We need likeminded people to pledge to create ripples of humanity so that we may have less poverty and poor in our midst. We need hearts that well up with compassion for the poor and the suffering. We need a different kind of hunger, a hunger for humanity.

Hunger for humanity
Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.
Jesus of Nazareth (Matthew 25:34-36)
